What to See
While you enjoy your ride, be sure to take the time to see some of the local points of interest-the Allegheny National Forest, Beaver Meadows, Buzzards Swamp, and Tionesta Dam. Truly the entire county would likely be considered a scenic park in most parts of the country!

Where to Ride
Depending on your ride of choice, you can travel the hard roads, hit the unimproved logging roads, or take to the woods. For hard roads, you might try a ride up Rt. #666. To enjoy a scenic ride on unimproved roads it's tough to beat the ride from Marienville to Tionesta. Choose your ride preference, and click on the link for more information:

Hitting the Hard
Road

For a scenic and unforgettable 40 mile experience, try Rt. #666 from Marienville to Tionesta. Starting in Marienville, proceed N. on Rt. #66 to Pigeon, turn left and proceed to the intersection of Rt. #666. Turn left on to 666 and enjoy the rolling scenery clear to Endeavor where you pick-up Rt. #62. Turn left and proceed S. to Tionesta. For an alternate route from Marienville to Tionesta, proceed S. on Rt. #66 to N.E. Hardwoods and turn off Rt. #66 on to the Guittonville Rd. Proceed to the intersection with Nebraska Rd., turn left to Rt. #36. Turn right on Rt. #36 and proceed to Tionesta.

The Back Roads Escape

For a spectacular ride, start at Marienville and head out the Abraxas Road. At approximately 6 miles, turn left on the Forest Service road to Kelletville (watch for the small sign!). Ride clear to intersection with Rt. #666 (right after crossing bridge), turn left onto Rt. #666. Proceed a short distance and at the bottom of the hill turn sharp left and proceed through Kelletville. Once through Kelletville, stay on dirt road (Tionesta Creek Road) and ride along Tionesta Creek. At the end of a long hill, intersect German Hill Road and turn left to proceed to Tionesta.

Not-so-long Escapes

From Tionesta-Cross the bridge over the Allegheny River heading S. on Rt. #62. Turn left at first road and proceed back under the bridge. Start on the old railroad bed and proceed to West Hickory on a mixture of rail bed and secondary roads. Or, shorter still, ride from Tionesta out Elm Street extension to the outflow and up the back way to the Dam.

From Marienville-Take a scenic ride out Abraxas Road to Beaver Meadows, or head out S. Forest St. and take a ride to and around Buzzards Swamp. For a little longer ride, try a run to Loleta and back to Marienville.

Wherever it takes me-

For the hard core rider, the county offers virtually unlimited riding opportunities. With close to 51% of the county a part of the Allegheny National Forest, exploring the woods can be a life long adventure. These rides are best planned ahead. The Forest Service provides printed brochures which detail established trails for bikers. In addition, individual riders are free to explore the vast woodlands and bask in the beauty of some of the best nature has to offer.

You gotta have a plan!

The best rides are well planned. Make sure you are comfortable with your understanding of the routes and where they will take you. Maps of the area are available from the County, the Forest Service, and area merchants. Be sure to bring plenty to drink, and for longer rides bring an energy snack, pack a lunch, or pick one up from one of our many area restaurants. If you really want to escape, take along a fishing pole and relax and enjoy your stay. You might consider packing a first aide kit just in case, and make sure someone knows your plan and when you should return.
We are currently working on a map which will highlight the abundant trails and logging roads wihtin our community and hope to publish it as soon as it's available.
Some of the routes will encounter motor vehicle traffic, usually heavier on the weekends, so consider wearing high visibility clothing, always wear a helmet, and ride safely!
