Forest County is home to some of northwestern Pennsylvania’s finest bird
watching. Whether it’s the warblers of Minister Creek, the flickers and
herons who call home the River Island Wilderness Areas, or the nesting
Bald Eagle pair soaring above the Allegheny River, you can find it all
here.
Migratory neotropical songbirds, who spend the winter in South America,
frequent the area during the summer months. Buzzard Swamp is an important
link in the Atlantic Flyway, and during spring and fall migration the ponds
are teaming with waterfowl. Beaver Meadows Lake is a waterfowl refuge that
can be canoed or enjoyed from hiking trails. All hiking trails offer variety
and surprises for the alert birdwatcher. |
