2006 COUNTRYSIDE TOUR

A Free Drive-it Yourself Tour of an artist studio, farms, a blacksmith, a woodturning shop, crafter/painter, a quilter,
aquatic displays and some history of Forest County.  Welcome one and all - come join us and see a little of what
Tionesta and the surrounding area has to offer.

Our Countryside Tour is an opportunity for you to stop and see artist studios, a fiber farm, a wood-turning, a forge, etc in our rural communities. Artists will be demonstrating their work and you will get an inside look at how these farms and businesses operate. The 9 diverse stops on the tour are located between Stewarts Run thru Tionesta to Newmansville along an 18 mile route. Visit the locations in any order you prefer, stopping at all the stops, or make individual selections as your time permits. Each stop is marked with a WELCOME flag and there are arrows to lead your way. Be sure to sign up for free door prizes and enjoy your day!

On Saturday, August 26th stop for a quick lunch at St. Anthony's Church and then be on your way again, to the next stop.

1. Reiland Farm and Shoppe

Llamas, Angora Goats and Sheep are all raised at this fiber farm. Step back in time and see how fibers are made into yarn on a spinning or a rug is woven on an early 1900's loom. You can visit their shoppe and studio that includes fibers for spinning, mill spun yarn, hand woven rugs, knitted items, wool filled comforts, Christmas ornaments and other crafts.

2.  St. Anthony's Church - 112 Bridge Street (behind the Forest County Sports Center), Tionesta, PA

Lunch ~ Saturday Only ~ For a $4.00 donation  the St. Anthony's Ladies Guild will service lunch, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., that will include hot or cold sandwiches, macaroni or potato salad, chips, relish tray, cake and beverage.  Easy parking and restrooms will be available.

3. The Hunting & Fishing Museum of Pennsylvania

The first State hunting and fishing museum in the United States!  Its purpose is the preservation of the hunting, fishing, trapping and conservation heritage of PA.  In the newly opened Activity Center you will see a sampling of what is to come in the main museum complex.  The facility includes exhibits, an air rifle range, video archery range and lecture hall.  The museum will be offering its logo merchandise, memberships, a door prize and more during the tour.

4. Forest Area Art Council

The Art Council supports  & sponsors events for local artists and artisans in our rural communities.  Come see a rustic gallery of various art displays of paper, fiber, glass, sculpture & semi-precious stone, some will even be for sell.

5. Forest County Historical Society Museum

Come see some Forest County history!  The museum is a 100 year old Victorian home being renovating over the past six years into the History Center.  Some interesting items you'll find will be old toys, tools of all sorts, pottery, pictures/photos and lots more.  Come take a look inside Camp 7, a replica of a 19th Century lumberman's dwelling, the actual West Hickory Bridge tollbooth or the Genealogy Room.  Some other new and interesting displays are also to be expected throughout the house.

6. German Hill Forge

Come see an artist-blacksmith at work who uses a traditional and progressive metal craft to create practical and unique hand crafted iron work items from simple hooks, hangers and bells to elaborate gates and church art work.

7.  Walters Woods

Witness the process of hand turning wood into a variety of items, including Chuck's specialty - cherry burl bowls with a natural edge. Other woods are also used and a selection of gift items is available here.  Bette will have a display of chairs with different technques in chair seat weaving.  She'll also be giving demonstrations and tips on creating a rushed seat.  Be sure to take the chair seat quiz while you're there.

8.  Carol McDonald Studio

This studio holds the work of an artist renowned for her renditions of wildlife in many art mediums. Watercolors, pastels, acrylics, woodcarvings, stamping, rock painting and paper sculptures can all be found here.  While you're there schedule a class with Carol and have your desire filled to be a beginner or advanced art student.

9. Hallway Gift Shop

The shop offers hand painted pieces, incuding oars, mirrors, saws, crocks, slates, glassware and much more.  If your have a favorite saw, milk can or etc, bring it in and Donna will paint it for you.  Chainsaw carver Don Cyphert will also be there for you to enjoy watching his carving demonstration & seeing his crafts.
